William Hare, the Dover councilperson who was arrested last month during a prostitution sting conducted by city police, is no longer seeking reelection. He also resigned from his position as 2nd District councilperson on Feb. The clerk's office announced his withdrawal from the race on Wednesday.
The year-old was one of six arrested on Jan. Hare was released on a criminal summons. Municipal elections in Dover are held on the third Tuesday in April in odd-numbered years.
This year's will be held April Dover police conducted the operation at an "undisclosed" hotel within city limits, the agency said previously. Hare was one of six charged with patronizing a prostitute, though several others arrested also faced additional charges based on what police found on them. Those charges included resisting arrest, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia and gun charges. For the last several years, Dover has worked to improve quality of life for its residents.
In , at least 33 people were shot in the city. According to this publication's internal shooting data, at least 40 people were injured in shootings in Dover in Since then, the number of people shot has decreased significantly. This has coincided with the city's efforts to address blight, drug use and prostitution.
