I actually had to do a huge research project on her last year for an Art History class and immediately fell in love with her story. There is actually a book coming out in March called The Creation of Eve by Lynn Cullen about her life and I am so excited to review it. Excellent post on Sofonisba Anguissola. Your post is a great companion reading to that book. Her story would make a great novel! Actually, there are a few more female artists that had really interesting lives too.
I am surprised that no one has done a novel on Levina Teerlinc. All the Tudor court hi-jinks told from the perspective of the painter I would write it if I wern't working on 10 other books right now. I will check that book out. I am not familiar with Lynn Cullen, but I pretty much love any novel that takes place in 16th century Europe.

Thanks for writing such an incredibly detailed post. It's horrible that most of her work perished in fire- what a tremendous loss. I received it as a Christmas present while I was still in school yes, that long ago and it was one of the most exciting books I'd ever read.
