In the summer we want to drive to south of france perpinion if thats how you spell it! This is by no means the fastest van on the planet but want a nice safe drive so whats best drive to hull catch ferry to france or drive to south coast dover etc or tunnel into france? How long will it take i expect one and a half days only one driver so a sleep over in france up early for next drive to destination or can this be done in one go?
I'm doing it in June. It's around miles from Calais to Beziers using motorway all the way. Bit further for you, not much. I'm leaving after work on a Thursday, staying at Premier Inn at the Eurotunnel port and getting an early start and aiming to do steady miles 7 hours with stops which will put me somewhere near Clermont Ferrand with an easier mile drive the next day.
I've done it in a day before but I was much younger and way more stubborn. I'd recommend a sleepover in a town, nice meal, couple of beers as part of the holiday otherwse you'll spend 2 days recovering from the slog of doing it in one day. For me the holiday started as we boarded in Hull we stopped for two nights at one place as we headed south so the hoilday to me was better than driving through congested South England to Dover.
You can cover big distances easier on the continent than in the UK I feel. To keep the time down you will need to use the motorway network, I remember a route planner that gave the average speed using the N roads as a little over 30 mph and to an extent I agree, France is a big country to cover.
Do not try and cover too much in a day, I once some years ago did a mile leg in a day which turned into 17 hours on the road due to losing so much time on the N roads, never again!
