In the early s, he wrote articles for the "Desert Sun" and "Palm Springs Life" about popular, world-famous destinations for mid-century modern architecture. Soon after, his interest in mid-century modern culture led him to photograph mid-century signage and architecture all over Southern California and beyond. He received his MA degree in creative arts in In , after photographing, printing, and framing his photos of local architectural landmarks, Bamberg contacted local vintage modern stores In Palm Springs and Los Angeles to consign his photos, offering them for sale.
Sales were brisk. Eventually, Bamberg was juried into the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs, California, becoming one of the few photographers who display their work there.
He also went on to write books about how to photograph and sell photos. His first book was. In the following ten years, Matt authored 11 more. Aside from writing about f-stops, shutter speeds and the fabulous job the digital camera manufacturers have done that permit photographers to take almost noiseless pictures in the dark at high ISO Speeds, Matt has had a year career in education, teaching in public schools in Oakland and Daly City for 14 years.
He currently teaches at National University. In he received the Delphi Award at the Sanford School of Education for his work as an adjunct professor. Initially, his focus was English Language Learners. He went on to teach topics in critical thinking and social justice.
Bamberg has traveled to over 70 countries, documenting architectural landmarks and diverse cultures worldwide. He continues his work with combining text and image to educate and inform about history, preservation and equality. After two decades of photographing, his text and image photography collection has become well-known and appreciated by many in the modern art scene.
