To the clientele of this illicit trade, it is a source of relief and pleasure from the drudgery of everyday life but to the worker, it is sometimes the only option in a world where money is the only key to survival. Prostitution is a form of exploitation where men dominate women through the use of money.
It has a very negative effect, both on the prostitutes themselves and on society as a whole, as it reinforces stereotypical views about women, who are seen as nothing more than sex objects whose only purpose is to be used and abused by men. It is an issue that our country needs to seriously monitor and seek ways to help our local girls and women who get trapped in such a helpless situation. In an exclusive interview with Solomon Women, a local speaks of her experience on the illegal trade as a sex worker.
SW: Yes, I was once married and we had a daughter. But then due to marital problems, my husband and I got separated.
SW: Well, I would blame my husband for that. SWN: How did you join up with this group of girls including women and why do you continue with such practices?
SW: After I left my husband, I went to live with some relatives. When I went to live with them they told me that I should talk to my husband and fix our marriage. But how can I when he had his girlfriend moving in with him already?
