Another mystery fireworks show rumbled across Puget Sound, this time in Commencement Bay. The Saturday night show off Tacoma came almost exactly one year after thousands of people saw bright fireworks shot from a barge southeast of Bainbridge Island that were heard more than 50 miles away.
Coast Guard. The show started around 9 p. The Coast Guard established a safety zone in Commencement Bay from 8 to 10 p. The fire department notified dispatch in case people call to report the explosives, and a fire boat was on standby while the fireworks barge was loaded, Shepherd said. The company that coordinated the secretive September shows is the same as the one for this year, according to Shepherd, who said she had seen permits filed with Tacoma fire.
That yacht, along with two other boats, assembled at a spot near the fireworks barge around 9 p. After the show, the Seattle Fire Department said that in the future, it planned to notify the public of any mystery-sponsor fireworks shows. She was unaware of other recent large fireworks displays in the Puget Sound off Tacoma other than on the Fourth of July.
