A policeman has been jailed for having oral sex with a young female crime victim in a disabled toilet at the station where he worked. Police constable Christopher Wilson started chatting up the woman while he was taking a formal statement of complaint at Launceston police station about an assault by her partner. He went with her to the disabled toilet after colleagues were called out on another inquiry and they were left alone.
He stripped off his uniform and police kit and pushed her down so she could give him oral sex. The woman was partially drunk and distressed at the time and he asked her not to tell anyone about what happened, saying he would lose his job if she did.
He took her to a Travelodge in Saltash as a place of safety and told her she could contact him through a dating website called Fabswingers. He carried on sending her suggestive messages for three months after the initial encounter on December 2, , Exeter Crown Court was told.
She was left very distressed by the experience but only made an official complaint after disclosing her ordeal to other women in a domestic violence support group. Wilson, aged 44, of Greenfield Road, Saltash, admitted misconduct in public office and was jailed for 10 months by Judge Timothy Rose. James le Grys, prosecuting, said Wilson took the woman to the police station to make a statement after she complained of being smothered with a pillow by her partner. She was upset, visibly injured, partially intoxicated, and talking of suicide or self-harm, but Wilson started making inappropriate comments as he was taking her statement.
