When she was a young child, the family moved to Cambridge, Ohio where they developed deep roots and eventually moved to a farm seven miles from town, where she still spent summers as an adult. Mimi graduated top of her class from Cambridge High School in the s and went on to earn a teaching degree from Ohio State University.
She earned acclaim at Bell and within the community for her energy and passion, as well as guiding her students to reach their fullest potential, taking a particular interest in neglected and underserved students and becoming a favorite teacher for decades. Mimi shared her life with her partner William Palmer until his death in , and she enjoyed gardening, travel, and caring for the dogs in her life, including Jackson, who became a therapy dog and volunteered with Mimi through the Love on 4 Paws program.
Always curious, Mimi deepened her knowledge for antiques and earned her appraisal license in Art and Antiques in her retirement. This was her secret weapon during her time as a volunteer for the Little Sister of Mary gift shop where she was known for her vast knowledge of glassware and furniture. She was also an active memberβincluding singing in the choirβof the First United Methodist Church of Torrance California. Mimi is survived by ten nieces and nephews, brothers Peter and John Eikenberry, sisters Susan Benham and Ellen Thomerson, as well as best friend Kay Hardesty and many other dear friends in Ohio and California.
