Many thanks to these classmates who have taken the time to do it. Part of the curriculum as a nursing school student included our walk each morning to Augsburg College for some Freshmen classes that first year.
My nursing plans, however, were interrupted the Spring of when I became engaged to a young man from Minneapolis whom I had been dating for a few months. Nursing School rules did not permit the students to be married while attending school, and due to my youthful insensibility, I decided the only logical determination would be to quit and get married.
So, I quit school that Spring, but our engagement did not last through the following autumn. My parents were disappointed in my decision to leave school, but encouraged me to look for a job.
My first real job was processing insurance medical claims at Aetna Casualty and I really enjoyed working in downtown Minneapolis. Dad helped me to buy an old used green Cadillac with only one slight problem. The power steering broke, reducing it to manual steering, and boy, did I have fun parking that thing! I lived in an apartment in South Minneapolis with 4 other single girls and we even planned our shopping and meals together.
