Thread starter TheWanderer Start date Jan 16, TheWanderer Senior Member. Oslo, Norway. Spanish Spain and Catalan. I'm acquainted with the informal term fling , meaning a short, physical relationship with someone. My question is: can fling also be used to denote the person you have this relationship with? For example: 1.
I had a fling with Tony. M y fling is coming over tonight. Is 2 correct? It would be a similar use to that of crush : 1. I used to have a crush on Sam. My crush just caught me staring at him. Thanks in advance! NJ, USA. I would probably be able to guess what someone meant, but it is not a typical expression. Great, that was what I was wondering about. Northwest England - near Blackburn, Lancashire. I agree with jmichealm. Thanks a lot! JustKate Senior Member. Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.
The the problem is that these terms - crush, person you had a fling with, lover, squeeze - are not synonyms. What are you trying to say, The Wanderer? What sort of relationship are you attempting to describe? At least that's how I hear it used. Rover's experience may differ, of course. Last edited: Jan 17, I was not interested in the meaning as much as in the usage.
