It was a good day for firefighters working a forest fire in Bath County. And a dangerous rescue mission to Antartica is over. Melissa Campbell says she couldn't believe what she was seeing when Bedrosian picked up her child and spanked him. Bedrosian says he did nothing wrong.
She says he was NOT out of control when he ran by Bedrosian and knocked over a cup of candy. Bedrosian is scheduled to appear in court later this month. Forest Service is reporting progress on a fire that has burned about acres in Bath County. But this weekend, the Forest Service called in a helicopter crew from Detroit, and firefighters have been making progress in their efforts to contain the flames.
Six of those were apparently caused by lightning strikes. Though this is not the time of year when rangers expect to fight forest fires, they say the dry weather has created dangerous conditions. Residents of the area are hoping a new project will make a difference. The landfill site is now covered with small trees and other vegetation, but problems with contaminated runoff and bad odors continue to plague the community.
Supplies needed to help a stranded woman with breast cancer were successfully airdropped via parachute this morning. At the Louisana state medical center doctors are using a radioactive product that is already used to find and diagnoisis a tumor but now it's helping destroy them. By injecting the radioactive material into the patient, it finds the tumor and attaches itself to it.
This allows the patient to get a direct dose of radiation without hurting other tissue. Doctors are finding tumors are shrinking and patients can get off their pain medication faster. However you won't find any acutal bells they're digitally sounded with the help of a computer.
