STORY: German police arrested a year-old Afghan man after a knife attack that left two people dead in a park in the city of Aschaffenburg on Wednesday.
Police said the victims were a year-old German man who was passing by and a two-year-old boy of Moroccan descent. Officials said that three other people were wounded, including a year-old man, a child, and a teacher.
He was admitted for psychiatric treatment and then released each time. Hermann also added that the suspect had had his asylum process closed. And while he planned to leave Germany in December, the suspect had stayed for the psychiatric treatment.
Police said there was no indication there might be further suspects involved in the incident. Hundreds gathered later in the city's central square to mourn the victims. The stabbings are the latest in a series of violent attacks in Germany that have sparked security and migration anxiety ahead of the Feb.
In December, a Saudi doctor was charged with murder after ramming his car into people at a Christmas market in the town of Magdeburg, leaving six people dead. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents led Sai Pavuluri out of his Northwest Side home in handcuffs, he turned to look at the camera crew recording his arrest.
