KCRA - A year-old fighting for her life in the hospital is the sole survivor of a family of five who were hit by a speeding driver on their way to church. The Lourenco family was on the way to church around a. Sunday when a speeding sedan broadsided their Jeep as they were crossing an intersection in the Turlock area, according to the California Highway Patrol. Their year-old daughter, Madelynn Lourenco, died in the hospital shortly after the crash.
Two other siblings β year-old Matthew Lourenco and year-old Emma Lourenco β were hospitalized in critical condition. The former died from his injuries days after the crash, the CHP confirmed Friday. The year-old who survived the crash is still recovering in the intensive care unit.
McClelland says he is heartbroken following the crash. His sister was a beloved teacher at Sinclear Elementary School and was even named teacher of the year for to , according to a statement from the Ceres Unified School District.
