View detailed profile Advanced or search site with Search Forums Advanced. Relocating to LA end of the year, now seeking suitable apt online. Will be working in Inglewood, any good communities around? I checked on rent. I'd better talk directly to an owner or realtor?
It seems ignorant but I am a foreigner and know little about it. BTW, I have searched it in the forum and found no similar thread. Thanks for any suggestion and input. One more thing, most apts in LA are owned and managed by a real estate company? Melissa R. I've used both westsiderentals and craigslist at the same time , and ended up getting a place from Craigslist.
I've heard both from friends and from this forum that the amount of WSR listings depends a bit on area, so you might want to see what a sample search assume you can do a free testing-the-waters search, but don't remember turns up in your specific target area. I haven't used rent. I don't know if that means anything or not, but it's been my experience that CL has become the default place to at least start a search. Keep in mind that CL is basically the same thing as the newspaper classifieds, so don't assume for any of these places, really that anything has been prescreened.
There are scammers around, but it's usually pretty obvious: if something sounds too good to be true it probably is. That said, I've successfully found two places from Craiglist, many of my friends in various parts of LA have successfully rented from CL, and none of us has had problems. WSR does cost money, but if you find that it has a lot of options available then I think you can credit some of that towards the credit check, although you'll have to confirm that.
If you have the extra money I'd sign up for WSR if nothing else, the easy search options will make it easy to get a good sense of what's out there and the price while at the same time also looking on places like Craigslist. No reason you can't search both at the same time. I personally would prefer talking directly to an owner, not a realtor or leasing agent.
