The attack occurred on Aug. Matias Pardo said. When the woman answered the front door, the man said he was a Comcast employee on a service call. She said service had not been scheduled and started to shut the door, but he pushed his way into the home and sexually assaulted her, Pardo said. Police described the assailant as a white man, 30, from 5-foot-9 to 6-feet, pounds, with short black hair and a muscular build. He was last seen wearing a red Comcast shirt and brown pants. A similar incident happened a few months ago in Mountain House in San Joaquin County, but in that instance the resident shut the door, was not attacked, and the person claiming to be a Comcast employee left after not being allowed in the home, Pardo said.
Police said they do not believe it is related to the Union City assault. When asked if the assailant was a Comcast employee, the company spokesman declined to comment further. Union City police detectives believe the assailant was impersonating a Comcast employee and does not actually work for the cable company, Pardo said.
If cable customers are unsure about an unannounced visit, they are urged to ask the employee to leave before contacting the company at Comcast to set an appointment, he said.
