The Ear, Nose and Throat ENT department has expertise in managing a range of common conditions as well as complex assessments and operations. ENT inpatients are managed on Ward 3A. The ward is managed by a ward manager, with a team of highly experienced staff nurses. Sometimes, ENT patients are managed in the high dependency ward, intensive care unit or other wards, particularly if they have another condition.
The department has a dedicated tracheostomy nurse specialist who provides advice and support to tracheostomised children and their families, as well as two other ENT nurse specialists. The ENT department works closely with a number of other departments in order to provide joint care to children and young people who have complex conditions requiring input from other health professionals.
Many of the children managed in the ENT department have complicated problems, in addition to various other medical and surgical problems. A wide variety of surgeries are performed in the ENT department ranging from grommet insertion to complex airway reconstructions. Her clinical interests include paediatric airway, paediatric ear surgery including endoscopic ear surgery, microtia and bone anchored hearing devices, Downs syndrome, Craniofacial surgery and complex breathlessness also known as EILO exercise induced laryngeal obstruction.
She has an interest in teaching, training and clinical research. She has organised, presented and taught at national and international conferences and courses, and has a number of publications in medical journals, books and reports. He has pioneered Mr Sharma has a special interest in treatment of drooling and Nose allergy in children. He is the ENT liaison for the regional Cleft services providing hearing surgery and airway assessment for children with cleft palate, serving the population of the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
He has developed specialist clinics in Paediatric Allergy and complex airway patients with consultant colleagues from Paediatric Allergy and Long term ventilation. He does joint anterior skull base surgery with the neurosurgical and ophthalmic colleagues.
