Reading is a social, thoughtful and reflective process, but most importantly it is fun! We at Lake Shore strive to achieve the county goal to help students read at or above grade level by the end of second grade as well as to encourage all students to reach their true potential. We are passionate in this endeavor at all grades and I am a passionate support for the teachers. This allows teachers to see how students decode turn letters on the page into sounds the words and how they comprehend the meaning of the words.
Students in all grades will be taught using the small group Guided Reading model. As part of this model, teachers will confer with students to help build their proficiency. Guided Reading also encourage students to discuss the text at hand. This develops the understanding and habit of reading being a social process. Teachers at Lake Shore are dedicated to this model and have seen the benefits. We know you will too! Adult readers use reading for professional and other research endeavors.
We work with students to help develop their ability to read content information that will help to enrich their understanding of the material within their grade-level Science, Math and Social Studies curriculums. Although our students are young, we look to their future use of reading in order to better develop 21st Century thinkers. Instrumental music instruction is offered to students entering the third through fifth grade. Trying to decide which instrument is best for your musician?
Try watching the " Strings Introduction " and " Band Introduction " to help you out! Videos might take a minute to load. Some weekend and evening activities such as concerts, are extensions of classroom instruction and student participation is expected. Band and string classes begin in September and carry on until the end of the year.
Enrollment information will be given to your child the first week of school. I strongly urge you to consider instrumental music for your child, take advantage of this opportunity to enhance your child's musical understanding and intelligence.
