Hello, Cubs fans. I hope you are all staying warm and enjoying the downtime as best you can between Cubs seasons. I will never sweat the players going to be part of a super team and making good money with a massively increased chance at winning a championship ring or two. I want to hate the Dodgers and even there I waffle.
I certainly hate the system that allows a couple of teams to operate in a completely different stratosphere as most of the others. It gets lost in the shuffle with all of the big time free agent and trade acquisitions that those two organizations, make but they also have elite drafting and player development groups.
One of the most amazing things when one of those teams makes a blockbuster trade is that they are able to trade blue chip talent and still protect what they believe are their top prospects. Or that they are almost always right and end up keeping and thriving with the best of their own talent.
If I had one wish for the game of baseball, it would be that it find an executive with real vision for both the landscape of baseball and the financial aspect. Baseball would benefit from re-imagining how they deliver and disperse their product to energize their fanbase. To move from that to the Tampa area and see a team that can be in the thick of a pennant race and I can walk up to the gate at game time and purchase a ticket.
But, of course, so much of the greater Tampa area is just like me. Someone from somewhere else with their allegiance to other teams. Again, engage those fans. When you do it right, people still love baseball. Some of the recent rules have been a breath of fresh air for the game.
