Recently, Central Lyon completed the process of testing the elementary and secondary buildings for radon. We are pleased to report that our test results came back below the U. This means we now have peace of mind that our students, staff, and community are learning in spaces that are as safe as possible from radon.
What is Radon? Radon is a naturally occurring gas that is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Radon travels through the ground and may enter buildings through cracks and holes in the foundation. Every building and home can trap radon gas inside it, and prolonged exposure to elevated radon can increase the risk of lung cancer. January is National Radon Action Month.
Middle School 2nd floor classrooms. High School. Future Testing. The State of Iowa now requires all schools to test for radon every five years. Central Lyon will test again during the school year.
