View detailed profile Advanced or search site with Search Forums Advanced. I'm inclined to say not worth it, although I'm sure some people will say they found their places on WR. Having moved to LA this past spring I went through all the usual search avenues for a place to live.
I definitely consulted the free access on Westside Rentals but always hesitated to pull the trigger on paying the fee. The more I read negative reviews on Yelp and bad experiences online, the more reluctant I was. In practice, I found that many if not most of the WR properties are also listed elsewhere.
Often, on Craigslist, and sometimes on MLS services and sometimes all of the above. Padmapper seemed to be a good site to sort through listings. Occasionally I would see an interesting WR listing and find another means to track down the property management or landlord. Sometimes you can suss out the address to find another listing that gives out this info. In my limited experiences, nobody asked how we got their contact without using WR.
We were shown a number of properties just by contacting landlords directly and never using the WR fee form. I think every rental story is unique, but in my case, the place we ultimately found came through a tip from a property management agent whom we'd met looking at another place that was listed on WR but we contacted directly by driving to the place and calling the on the sign.
That place didn't work out, but he suggested another place that just came up, and it turned out to be the right listing at the right time.
